The P word, ask any lower league fans whose team are putting together a good run at this time of the season what they think they’re chances are and they will always tell you not to mention the dreaded P word.
However despite this I’m going to stick my neck on the line and not only mention that word but also state that I believe Shrewsbury Town will finally achieve promotion this season.
Looking at the state of affairs at the moment, going over the final fixtures for each of the teams around us and evaluating how many points I think each time will gain I believe Shrewsbury have quite considerably the easiest run-in of the top 6.
Now I am aware that this could be a potential banana skin. However most of the teams we will be playing will have very little to play for and with our unbeaten home record now stretched to 26 games after Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Burton I see no reason why we shouldn’t be able to pick up maximum points from our six remaining home games this season.
The only two real threats to this record are fellow high-flyers Cheltenham and administration stricken Port Vale. Cheltenham Town have been this season’s surprise package in League Two and the match between us in just over a week’s time will be the most important game of the season so far.
As for Vale they have always been a thorn in our side and we have failed to beat them at the Meadow in our last three attempts. Their current off the field problems could spur them on come the end of the season as they will try to finish the campaign with their heads held high and I’m sure they would love to be the team to ruin our hot streak.
So with 11 games to go, six at home, five away, I genuinely think we could pick up at least 25 points from these remaining games and that will undoubtedly take us up, who knows, perhaps even as champions?
