da dobrowin: Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has named Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as his Premier League Manager of the Year.
da premier bet: The Blues are closing in on the top flight title as they maintained their seven-point advantage over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend with a 3-1 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
After finishing 10th last season following a disappointing campaign, some were unsure how Conte would do in his first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Following a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in October their title hopes looked to be in tatters, but it was at that point the Italian decided to change to a 3-5-2 formation.
Chelsea then embarked on an incredible 13-match winning run that came to an end in January when they lost 2-0 to Spurs at White Hart Lane.
They recovered from that defeat and have been beaten on just one occasion since – against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge earlier this month – with players such as Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante in sparkling form.
Carragher told Sky Sports: “What an outstanding job he’s done for his first year in the Premier League.
“The signings have worked really well, he’s changed the system, brought someone like Victor Moses in who no-one thought was good enough to play at that level and rejuvenated players like Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa.
“It’s been a masterclass in managerial expertise this season.”
With six fixtures of the campaign remaining, Chelsea can move another step closer to winning the Premier League title if they can beat Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend, but a certain Jose Mourinho might just have something to say about that.
